I was sick all weekend but this morning at 3am I woke up for no reason totally refreshed.  It seemed like most of my symptoms broke and I felt ready to take on the world.  For some reason the song Inna Gadda Da Vida kept popping into my head and I actually attempted to sing it in the shower (though thats the only line I know?). I hop outta the shower and see that I have three hours before I need to go to work so I figure I will play some WoW to pass the time. Then as luck would have it the servers are down for general maintenance and my gaming is denied.

Umm...

Over my "Christmas holiday" I didnt leave the house much.  Working retail is a sure way to gain a distaste for shopping and with the mass crowds who wants to anyways? Luckily just like last year the HBO DVD box set prices were cut in half. So I vegged out on the sofa watching TV for the holiday.

The first I picked up was John Adams, which is the story of one of the founding fathers of our nation.  It had its good and bads. First off, Paul Giamatti does an amazing job as John Adams.  If you didnt think he was an amazing actor before, watching this will certainly change your mind. When given the dialogue it is easy to become transfixxed by his every word. The second episode that shows the steps necessary to create a decleration of independance was very enjoyable. It was the first time I had ever seen it dramatized with a serious realism that showed how unpopular their ideas were and you could feel a genuine fear of the ramifications of their actions. Paul Giamatti is in the zone in this episode and his speeches made me want to jump off the couch and start my own country.

But...By portraying his entire adult life in a short miniseries they had to pick and choose which characters, places, and emotions were portrayed. It seemed to me that they chose a lot of strange stuff to neglect and it felt to me that a lot of necessary dialogue and interaction is missing. For instance in one hour long episode John Adams is in France serving as our ambassador for 5 years. During that episode the only real interaction between him and the french is one short two minute scene in which he insults the French king by making demands.  This seems to happen more and more as the series winds down and I ended up feeling kinda cheated. This with a horrid finale with him being really old and everyone dying one by one made for an extremely dispressing climax.

Oh and a very stupid nit pick of mine. Laura Linn plays his loving wife perfectly competently. However every single movie or show I have seen this woman in she plays a total bitch.  So while John Adams wife is a very lovable endearing character I had a hard time relating as I always thought she would get up and start screaming at everyone. Remember to chose some diversity in your roles actors.
